Boards & Superintendents

Strategies for Creating a Strong Strategic Partnership

Wednesday, Nov 8, 2017 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM EST

Boards and superintendents have a special relationship. When that relationship is strong and healthy, boards and superintendents work in strategic partnership to ensure student achievement is the primary focus of every effort. But, too often, this partnership can become strained - leading to high turn-over rates for superintendents nationally, with superintendents citing "working with the board" as a primary reason they leave their positions. Meanwhile, boards are challenged to find the best ways to recruit, support, and retain the best superintendents.

In this webinar we will be focusing on the dynamic relationship between the school board and superintendent. We’ll cover the board’s roles and responsibilities in hiring, evaluating, supporting and retaining top talent, and share strategies for developing a strong strategic partnership between the board and superintendent that can lead to better student outcomes. Our panel features perspectives from a state school board association, school board chair, and superintendent.

Webinar panelists:

Andrea Messina, Executive Director

Florida School Boards Association

Beverly Slough, Board Member

St. John's School District, FL

Dr. Deborah Wortham, Superintendent

East Ramapo School District, NY
